Network Rail

Drone Surveys and Visual Inspections using Rope Access

Project Brief: Stroma Specialist Access spent Christmas Day 2018 working on Stratford box, the Stratford International Station for the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. This built on the longstanding relationship we have built with Network Rail High Speed as their main supplier for examination works.

We implemented a cutting edge and flexible approach to conducting the examination works on the structure. In addition to standard Visual Inspections carried out by out qualified Rope Access engineers, the project involved the first use of a Drone on HS1 infrastructure.

Employing the DJI Matrice 210 RTK specialist drone platform, our pilots conducted a Drone Survey of the Stratford box. The Matrice 210 includes a camera with the ability to look up. This increased the accuracy of inspection data for the client and provided valuable reports from areas of the structure which were difficult to access.
