Building Control is a process during many construction projects or developments which helps to make sure that the Building Regulations (regulations outlined by the Government) are complied with during the project lifecycle.
The Building Regulations are enforced by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). The regulations are documented in a series of Approved Documents (ranging from A to R). These standards were written to guide the design and construction of built assets to make sure they are safe and compliant for users.
Alongside safety, the Building Regulations also include provisions for energy efficiency, accessibility and fire safety. Building Control refers to these Approved Documents when making recommendations to guide the design and construction process.
Building Control services (or the role of an Approved Inspector) can be undertaken either by a Local Authority or a Private Approved Inspector (such as Stroma Building Control. Private Approved Inspectors are licensed by the Construction Industry Council (CICAIR) to fulfil the responsibilities of an Approved Inspector or Building Control Surveyor.
Private Approved Inspectors are required to renew their licenses by CICAIR every 5 years. This ensures that a Building Control company always offers the highest service standards to customers in line with current regulations. Stroma Building Control is pleased to have been granted a license by CICAIR.
Prior to forming in 2018, Stroma Building Control existed as three independent Approved Inspectors (Approved Design Consultancy, BBS Building Control and Greendoor Building Control) who have a combined experience of more than three decades working for the construction industry.
Stroma Building Control combines a wealth of experience, with highly qualified teams of surveyors capable of assessing projects of any size, difficulty and type. Our Building Control services offers a comprehensive Building Control service to minimise risk and assess compliance for your proposed developments:
