The Cancer Research Race for Life is one of the UK’s best-known charitable fundraising events. Christopher Eaton, one of our Building Control Surveyors working from our Chelmsford office, is running this year’s race in Bury St. Edmunds to raise money for cancer research in support of his son.
In 2018, one of Christopher’s sons was diagnosed with Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma. It is a very rare and incurable cancer which spreads very slowly. At present, there is no cure for this type of cancer and depending on the spread of the condition the range of treatment is limited.
Since August 2018, Christopher’s son has had radiotherapy to treat the tumours and has a treatment plan to provide pain relief and prolong life.
On 9 June, Christopher and members of his family will be completing the 5k Race for Life to raise money for cancer research and as a thank you to the dedication and hard work provided by the hospital team.
50% of people will experience cancer in their lifetime and so research into treating and curing all types of cancer has never been more vital. The Race for Life includes 5k, 10k and Pretty Muddy events across the country. The funds raised allow research to continue in order to cure the 200 types of cancer.
Thanks to the work of Cancer Research UK, cancer survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years. The funds raised from events such as the Race for Life allow improvements to be made which help to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer and improve survival rates even further.
