He has worked alongside design teams on prestigious developments across the north of England for both Local Authority Building Control and independent Approved Inspectors.
Paul has taken over the role from our previous Associate Director (North), Jason Foster, who has now taken on a new position as Business Development Director; responsible for strategic partnerships and client relationships, new and emerging markets and overall sales strategy for our Building Control division.
Paul McClelland said: "I am delighted to have been appointed as Associate Director for the Northern Region. I will use my wealth of experience within the sector to deliver an efficient & cost effective building control service. I am focused on developing the reputation of Stroma Building Control as we grow from strength to strength as one of the largest Corporate Approved Inspectors in the country."
Paul’s appointment follows Stroma Building Control’s continued investment into the northern region. As Associate Director (North), Paul is responsible for our Manchester, Wakefield and Durham offices and will be based across all sites.
We opened our Manchester office last year, bringing our Building Control services to the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.
Led by our Building Control Manager, Geoff Wood, the office primarily provides support for clients and their projects in the north west. The combined experience of the Manchester team enables them to deliver Building Control support to clients working on domestic or commercial projects.
In March 2019, experts from across our Building Control and Built Environment divisions hosted a Group CPD for Architects, Designers and Project Managers across Manchester. The CPD covered Building Regulations Part B Fire Safety update post Grenfell and Air Quality within the Planning Regime, as well as giving local clients and opportunity to meet our Building Control Team.
As well as our Manchester team, we’re growing our department in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. More recently, we welcomed Simon Berry to the team as an Assistant Building Control Surveyor, who joins the business from one of Stroma Group’s other divisions, Stroma Certification. Before Simon, we also welcomed Steve Derbyshire to Stroma Building Control.
The Wakefield team comprises skilled Building Control Surveyors at all levels, including Lee Carl, Senior Building Control Surveyor, Steve Derbyshire, Simon Berry and Nicola Taylor, who provides much needed admin support.
Both Simon and Steve are part of Stroma's new Training Academy, which launched in April 2019. The Training Academy provides graduates, trainee building control surveyors and experienced inspectors achieve professional memberships to CABE as well ongoing training, CPD’s and workshops for ongoing development.
We’d like to hear from clients across the North of England. If you have any upcoming projects that require our Building Control services, please get in touch with your local Surveyors.
