Staff from Stroma Building Control’s Petts Wood office have completed the London Bridges Challenge in aid of Diabetes UK. Claire Turrell, Senior Administrator based in Petts Wood was taking part in the challenge as part of the last leg of her ambitious One Million Step Challenge on September the 30th, also to raise money for Diabetes UK.
Claire signed up to the One Million Step Challenge earlier this year, committing to racking up a mammoth one million steps between 1st July and 1st September to raise money for Diabetes UK. Claire said, “I’m taking part in the One Million Step Challenge to support people affected by diabetes.
There are 4.7 million people living with diabetes in the UK, the complications of which lead to over 500 premature deaths every week. So, I’m stepping towards a healthier me, and a better future for people living with diabetes. The One Million Step challenge as a whole was undertaken by over 17,000 people, who together raised over £650,000 for the Diabetes UK charity. The initiative is set to run again next year, so if you’re interested you can register here, it will start on 1st of July.
Claire was joined by colleague Yemi Asimolowo for the final leg of her challenge to complete her 1,000,000th step which began on the 1st of July. In total, Claire raised a fantastic £387 after logging a grand total of 1,000,154 steps!
Claire crossed the finish line in terms of her step goal by completing the London Bridges Challenge, which contained 12 London bridges, including London Bridge, Tower Bridge and the oldest bridge in London, Westminster Bridge which dates back to 1862.
