Stroma Built Environment is a leading provider of Air and Acoustic testing and consultancy services to the construction industry. We have combined the expertise and experience of BBS Environmental, HRS Services and Stroma Tech to form the Air & Acoustics department of our newly-launched Stroma Built Environment division.

We can support your project’s air and acoustic requirements throughout the RIBA Plan of Work, from concept design through to project completion and handover with a range of services.

Air & Acoustics Services

Our building and environmental acoustic services can help you to determine the impact your development will have on the surrounding environment and assist you in meeting compliance requirements for acoustic performance. Our air consultancy and testing services ensure your projects achieve compliance with air permeability targets, planning requirements, Building Regulation Part L, BREEAM and many other industry standards as well as improving occupier comfort levels.


Meet the team

Our expert Air & Acoustics team consists of Acoustic Consultants, Acoustic Engineers, Air Tightness Technicians, Project Coordinators, Envelope Calculation Technicians and a number of dedicated staff who operate our Compliance and Operations teams. Each member of our team is suitably qualified against the relevant bodies, such as ATTMA, to ensure compliance and to help you achieve your targets for your projects which meet relevant standards.

The Air & Acoustics department is led and supported by our senior team of Air & Acoustics Directors and Managers:

Ian Wallbank – Director of Air & Acoustic Services

Ian is the head of our Air and Acoustic services, overseeing the management and development of these core service strands of the Built Environment division. He liaises closely with the Heads of Acoustics as well as compliance and operations teams to ensure the delivery of efficient Acoustic and Air Testing Consultancy and Testing services to our clients across the UK.

Neil Turnbull (Wakefield) and Silvio Murgia (Sheffield) - Heads of Acoustics

Neil and Silvio support each of our Built Environment offices in Wakefield and Sheffield respectively. They head the Acoustics team in each of these regions and are responsible for leading and managing our team of acoustic specialists who are based across the UK.

Penny Hammond – Operations Manager

Penny oversees the day-to-day schedules and management of our Air Tightness Technicians. She works alongside our Compliance Manager to ensure our Air Tightness teams are distributed across the UK to support clients in all regions.

Marc Cowlin – Compliance Manager

Marc supports the Compliance department of Stroma, ensuring all of our Air and Acoustics teams and operations are compliant with relevant standards and regulations
