In 2014, the Government introduced the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS); a compulsory energy scheme applying to all UK organisations who meet a qualification criterion.
To comply, organisations must carry out ESOS assessments every four years, including audits to review energy consumption within their buildings, processes and transport. The data collected must then be used to improve energy efficiency through cost-effective energy saving measures.
As Phase 1 ended in December 2015, organisations are now working towards compliance for ESOS Phase 2.
Once an organisation has completed its ESOS submission, they must submit their notification of compliance to the Environment Agency. The notification system for Phase 1 closed in February 2019 and organisations are now able to use the new notification system for ESOS Phase 2.
The Phase 2 notification system is very similar to Phase 1, apart from two important changes:
Don’t forget, the compliance deadline for ESOS Phase 2 and submitting your notification is 5th December 2019.
Stroma Built Environment achieved ESOS Phase 1 compliance for a large portfolio of organisations. We worked with clients across several sectors, including manufacturing, construction, pharmaceutical, health, transport, finance, insurance, retail, training, leisure and voluntary to identify energy-saving opportunities within their business.
