In October 2015, Stroma Tech launched a range of energy services to help large organisations comply with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) regulations. In this month's 15th anniversary time capsule we look back at the launch of ESOS ahead of the next compliance phase in 2018.
In response to the European Union's Energy Efficiency Directive, the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) was launched by the UK Government.
The ESOS scheme is a mandatory requirement, requiring large organisations in the UK to undertake energy assessments and audits at least once every four years.
The ESOS criteria requires that organisations which employ more than 250 employees, or have an annual turnover of more than €50 million and a balance sheet exceeding €43 million comply with the regulations. The majority of organisations operating in the public sector are excluded, but organisations receiving public funding, such as universities, may qualify.
The ESOS regulations require qualifying organisations to undertake the following steps:
In response to the introduction of ESOS in 2014, our lead assessors worked with a number of organisations to carry out and review energy audits and overall ESOS assessments. We provided carbon consultancy, energy assessments and energy auditing to help businesses implement energy efficiency measures, cut energy costs, whilst achieving ESOS compliance.
Following on from the 4 years since phase 1, ESOS phase 2 has been announced. Organisations who qualify for ESOS have been urged to prepare for the next compliance deadline of 5th December 2019.
With a large amount of organisations failing to report compliance for the phase 1 deadline, organisations should plan early and start the compliance process in order to avoid fines and ensure compliance.
Our energy audit specialists have achieved compliance for a large range of clients across a variety of sectors, helping organisations to get the full financial benefits of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme.
By engaging with Stroma Tech at the earliest opportunity, we can help you to identify and implement energy efficiency measures early, ensuring you minimise the risk of disruption to your business. Our lead assessors can also assist with reviewing energy data for submission to the Environment Agency.
