We're committed to supporting our local charities across the Stroma Group. In 2018, our 16 offices combined to contribute hundreds of pounds to causes close to our hearts. Here's a summary of what we got up to:
In the spirit of this year’s Winter Games, the Castleford office competed in its second Office Olympics this month for charity. Featuring office-based twists on events such as Curling and Figure Skating, our athletes battled hard to take home the medals. Overall winners on the day were the Blue Team (Downstairs Office) who collected the Olympic trophy, but the real winners were Sport Relief as £100 was raised for their appeal.
The team from our Central London office recently completed Building Control involvement in a non-profit bakery scheme in Dalston which helps local youngsters get into work. Staff from Stroma Building Control helped facilitate a move from a consumer unit into a bigger premises including a more generous bakery area and café zone.
Gill Campbell, took part in a sponsored walk around Bewl Water on Saturday 31 March in aid of Ovarian Cancer Action. Well done Gill!
Jess Sharpe completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge on Saturday 7 July to raise money for St Leonard’s Hospice in York.
Stroma Building Control held an Easter activity day last month including an egg decorating contest (won by Sarah Dickens) and a competition to guess staff from their baby photo (won by Lisa Probert). £62 was raised in total for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mick Smith, one of our Air Testing Engineers, raised money for the Eve Merton’s Dream Trust. He played in a Legends football match at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday 3 June. The Trust helps to create dreams for cancer patients in the Doncaster area.
Martin Watton, our Technical Director in Building Control, ‘Raced the Sun’ in a 57 mile on & off road cycle race from Sunrise to Sunset. This was to raise money for Action Medical Research, a charity dedicated to improving the health of babies and young children.
Stroma HQ raised £114.85 for man’s best friend at the Dogs Trust. Well done to the Accounts team for winning the Best Desk Decorations and Simon who smashed the Table Football Tournament.
Our Sheffield office raised a grand total of £189.32 for The Great Stroma Bake Off. Well done to everyone involved and thank you for your support and dedication!
In support of Hospice in the Weald, a local charity in Kent, Stroma entered their annual Wheels Around the Weald sponsored cycling event. After dodging heavy rain and fixing a suspected puncture, the day went really well.
15 team mates from across Stroma completed the ‘Hellrunner ‘on 13th October. Dubbed ‘the toughest half marathon in the UK’, team Stroma had a great day wading through bog lakes, manure bogs and clambering up steep hills. The team from Stroma Specialist Access donned a variety of festive outfits to help entertain the kids and install the Christmas snowflakes on Sheffield Children's Hospital. Our specialist rope access technicians helped to erect more than 200 snowflakes which have been sponsored by local Sheffield businesses in support of the hospital's National Elf Service campaign.
Thank you to everyone who took part in Stroma’s Wicked Wednesday to raise funds for several nominated charities. At Head Office, we managed to raise an amazing £126 for the Prince of Wales Hospice. Best dressed included: Marie Horner, Sharon Beeton & Jenny Wright – great effort!
