Stroma Certification release new Cavity Clearance scheme

Installers working throughout the built environment and efficiency sectors are able to add an in-demand trade to their service offerings with the release of Stroma Certification’s new Cavity Clearance scheme. With no current legislation surrounding cavity clearance, we have adopted a competency standard to ensure professional and high-quality extractions of cavity wall insulation.

An in-demand trade

Our leading certification body status has been achieved through our response to industry demand. With almost 14 million UK homes containing cavity wall insulation, out of the 19 million with cavity walls, the release of our Cavity Clearance scheme recognises the need for a new strand of certification. Installers have an opportunity to gain a broader scope of work to remove damaged or deteriorating cavity wall insulation by joining Stroma Certification.

Cavity Clearance Scheme

Cavity wall insulation often becomes insufficient, and may need extracting, because of flooding, damp, debris, blockages, low grade material and the expiration of insulation which has been present for a prolonged period of time. This can cause heat loss, excessive cold areas and mould which leads to increased health and safety risks and energy waste for the building’s occupants or owners. Stroma certified Cavity Clearance installers reduce these risks by removing the inefficient insulation, ready for a new installation.

Setting a new competency standard

Currently, there are no set, industry standards or guidelines surrounding cavity clearance to determine the levels of competency required when removing cavity wall insulation. Stroma Certification has adopted a competency standard for scheme members to apply throughout all aspects of the cavity clearance process to ensure health and safety risks and energy waste are reduced to a high and safe standard.

As an accredited certification body, Stroma Certification understands the importance of competency throughout the industry. Clients can be confident that their cavity will be cleared professionally as Stroma vet each installer throughout their application before being granted access to any of our schemes. Regular auditing of documents and installation capabilities is also carried out throughout memberships to maintain compliance.

A beneficial scheme

Named Installer Certification Body of the Year, Stroma Certification is a prominent organisation in providing the most competitively priced and highest-quality installer schemes in the industry. Members of the scheme will receive Stroma’s low-cost, online notification software, Tracker, to submit their assessed cavity extraction video and all future cavity clearance documents for notifications. Other benefits include dedicated technical support, a members area for scheme and legislature updates, access to the Stroma Store and business insurance.

Applicants can join our Cavity Clearance scheme and add the required On-Site Competency Assessment Report (OSCAR) qualification, should they not already have it, to achieve certification. With a simple application process, applicants can be certified to carry out competent cavity clearances efficiently and begin to provide a vital service for property owners.
