Aaron Services Ltd has become certified under Stroma Certification’s Group Competence Scheme (GCS).
Stroma Certification’s UKAS accredited GCS provides certification for companies that monitor the competency of their installers to help them demonstrate the safety and competence of their registered engineers. With over 250 employed gas safe registered engineers, Aaron Services’ certification under Stroma Certification’s GCS enables them to maintain the ongoing competence of their workforce.
There were two key incentives for Aaron Services to implement GCS Certification into their business. First, to use the GCS to provide a tailored, continuous development, training and assessment programme for their operations workforce, focussing on each individual’s requirements. Secondly, to ensure that their clients, customers, management teams and operatives have the ability to demonstrate the highest gas safety standards whilst working out in the field.
Developed by industry experts, Stroma Certification’s GCS provides an alternative accreditation route to the Accredited Competency Scheme (ACS) and includes certification in line with the core gas safety elements for a vast scope of major gas work. A gas installer’s competency checks are required to be renewed every 5 years and the ACS therefore checks competence in line with this 5 year period. The Stroma Certification GCS however provides an annual assessment alternative to ensure gas installers are up to date with legislative changes within a year of their release. The ongoing assessment process is designed to minimise disruption to gas engineers’ regular working schedules, ensuring they remain available for work whilst the certification process is carried out.
With GCS Certification, Aaron Services are able to assess each of their engineers continuously, ensuring they are compliant against technical and legislative changes and promptly identifying and rectifying and issues or concerns regarding their gas competency on an ongoing basis. The GCS has enabled competency to be monitored more effectively and all of Aaron Services’ engineers now receive a one-day annual assessment which determines whether they are following company procedures and working safely against the latest standards and regulations. With GCS Certification, Aaron Services now has the capability to facilitate any requests for additional gas safety training and support from their engineers, including follow-on training after their annual competency checks.
The GCS has helped Aaron Services achieve their initial incentives for implementing the scheme. Their gas engineer workforce has become more motivated since the adoption of GCS and their training and assessment model. Operatives are receiving continuous support throughout the five year assessment periods as opposed to the refresher course they were receiving upon accreditation renewal previously.
Clients and customers of Aaron Services are also receiving an increased quality of service due to their engineers’ improved levels of confidence. The continued support the GCS has enabled Aaron Services to provide to their employees means concerns of competency are promptly addressed and corrected against the compliance principles which the GCS outlines. Aaron Services’ experienced gas operatives have welcomed the continued assessment process, reporting an efficient method of maintaining competence without additional pressure and stress.
Aaron Services Ltd, part of the Lakehouse Group, specialise in domestic and commercial heating services for registered social housing, including Local Authorities and Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) across the East of England. Their workforce encompasses over 400 staff who support their core business of servicing, maintaining and installing domestic gas heating systems on behalf of their clients.
