15th anniversary since Stroma was formed

The Stroma Group now consists of 18 registered offices throughout the UK since it was first founded in August 2002. Beginning as a reaction to new requirements for air tightness testing, the Group has now grown significantly to deliver a broad-range and diverse offering of building performance, sustainability and compliance services throughout the built environment.

August 2017 marks our 15 year anniversary and to celebrate we would like to take a look back at some of our milestones which have contributed to developing the Stroma Group into the largest provider of niche sustainability services to the construction and energy industries.


Stroma 15th Anniversary

The Stroma Group: 2002 to 2017

The company you know today as Stroma Tech became one of the first providers of certified air permeability testing in 2004 before adding acoustic testing in response to Building Regulations Part E. More services followed, including thermographic testing services, so to accommodate our expansion, Stroma relocated from Halifax and established our Head Office in Castleford, West Yorkshire.

In 2007, Stroma Certification was formed and was approved to provide certification and training schemes to help energy assessors comply with government legislation and industry standards. By 2009, The Non-Domestic Energy Assessment (NDEA) Certification scheme became the largest scheme in the UK, and as a result, Stroma Certification grew further and established themselves as market-leaders within their field. The growth of Stroma Certification led to the company performing Competent Person Schemes (CPS) for installer traders after gaining approval by the DCLG in 2010. This was followed by the introduction of software packages for SAP and CSH assessments. In the same year, Stroma Tech expanded its service offering to provide impact assessments and compliance strategies to Carbon Reduction Commitment-obligated companies.

The rise in adoption of mobile technology brought many challenges to Stroma as the demand for software packages available on mobile devices increased. Stroma responded in 2012 by launching an iPad version of its energy assessment software RSAP+, improving its functionality and adding additional modules to assist DEA members in fulfilling their data collection responsibilities.

Stroma Tech made its TV debut in 2013 when it answered a call from DIY SOS to provide complimentary air testing for the Little Miracles charity as part of a Children in Need special. Away from the screens, Stroma Certification continued to dominate their industry by securing ISO 14001 and 27001 accreditation, opened a new Energy Company Obligation (ECO) department and pioneered an innovative software development in RSAP+ which was the first to submit a live Green Deal Finance application to the Green Deal Finance company.

In reaction to the achievement of RSAP+ and the expansion of our in-house development team, Stroma Software was formed in 2014 to satisfy the growth of our software offering; this led to RSAP+ mobile and desktop software modules receiving approval by BRE in line with the RdSAP 9.92 standard.

For the Group to continue to grow, Stroma secured major investment in 2014 from Lloyds Banking Group’s private equity division LDC. In 2015, a new strategy bore fruit with the acquisition on Greendoor Building Control, a CIC Approved Inspector with years of Building Control experience in domestic and commercial markets. This was followed by the acquisition of two more independent CIC Approved Inspector organisations in 2016, when Stroma welcomed Approved Design Consultancy and BBS Building Control.

Recollecting the past 7 months, 2017 has already been an exciting and eventful year for the Stroma Group. Our recent acquisition of HRS Services will complement Stroma Tech’s overall service offering, but will also bring fresh and pioneering expertise in inspection and maintenance services for infrastructure services. Furthermore, Stroma Tech has launched its health and safety consultancy to provide assistance with regulatory compliance for new and existing buildings.

Through our organic growth and acquisition, the Stroma Group now provides a wider range of services throughout the construction lifecycle and we wish to develop and improve our service quality further.
