Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) Training

Stroma Certification has developed a bespoke Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) training course aimed at educating energy assessors, landlords and letting/managing agents in the upcoming changes that will affect domestic Private Rental Sector (PRS) properties. The course follows on from Stroma's DEA CPD sessions which introduced MEES and is in response from members for a dedicated CPD session.

What is MEES?

From the 1st April 2018, it will become unlawful to let domestic properties which have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of an 'F' or 'G' in England and Wales. The Energy Efficiency (Private Rented Sector) (England and Wales) Regulations 2015 will prevent landlords and property owners from granting a lease to a new tenant or a lease renewal to an existing tenant unless they meet the minimum energy efficiency standard (MEES) (minimum EPC rating of E).

The Regulations will have significant implications for the privately rented market as landlords, property owners and letting agents will need to ensure that any properties in scope of the regulations are compliant before a lease is granted, unless an exemption applies or upgrades are made to meet the minimum standard. To minimise the effects of MEES, those with an interest in domestic privately rented properties need to act now to avoid potential financial penalties, a loss in rental income or a reduction in the value of their assets.

With an estimated 25% of domestic properties and 20% of commercial properties in England and Wales predicted to be non-compliant of MEES, the training course will cover the huge opportunities available to energy assessors under the new legislation, as well as helping landlords, letting agents and managing agents avoid the pitfalls of non-rentable properties and large fines.

Who should attend?

MEES training is a comprehensive course which outlines in detail the regulations and key compliance dates. The course is a great opportunity for energy assessors, Stroma members and anybody involved within the domestic private rental sector to develop a better understanding of the legislation to ensure you and your clients are compliant before the regulations is enforced in April 2018.
