Merger FAQ

Leading testing, inspection, certification, and compliance (TICC) specialist, Phenna Group, has agreed to combine Elmhurst Energy Systems Ltd and Stroma Certification Ltd.

By creating a single entity under the Elmhurst Energy Systems brand, this move represents an ongoing commitment and investment in the future of the energy assessment and retrofit sector.

In order to assist Elmhurst and Stroma Certification members during this time, we have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions. This page will be updated and shared alongside any changes.

During this time, it is also important that we gather as much feedback from our members as possible. You can now have your say by completing our Stroma/Elmhurst Merger Survey.

Yes, in the short term. However, once the schemes have successfully migrated all members, users, and products, Stroma Certification will cease to operate, and the brand will no longer be used. We will keep all members informed of any updates.
The Stroma name is used by other businesses within the Group (e.g., Stroma Built Environment). These companies are not part of this agreement and will continue to operate separately. The creation of a new brand would not maintain continuity and may risk losing brand awareness in the market. Elmhurst Energy is the larger player and market-leading brand in the EPC sector. Combining our members under this brand will provide our members will a bigger voice within the industry and better representation.
For the moment, nothing is changing. This includes the audit processes and your auditors. In the long term, we will take the best of both and create better products and services. We will keep all members informed of any future changes.
Until the schemes are combined, the Stroma Certification Scheme will continue to trade, and Stroma members will see no difference in the software that they use, the support that they receive, and the invoices that they pay. Deciding on the best time to come together will be a collective decision between the Stroma and Elmhurst management teams, during which Members will be given plenty of notice and extensive support to make it seamless for your business.
You will not need to take any action at this time as the software and support you use will continue to be delivered for the foreseeable future. We would prefer that clients do not pre-empt the transfer and for the best commercial deal, they should remain with Stroma until contacted. Elmhurst will honour all current commercial arrangements.
Each software is approved for use for compliance and EPCs under SAP 10.2, and as such will continue to be supported. There will be no changes in the short term, and you should continue to use your preferred software. In the longer term, we will look to combine the best of both for our members and users.

Stroma Built Environment and Stroma Building Control will continue to operate separately as part of the Phenna group. These companies are not part of this agreement.
This is an obvious concern. However, Elmhurst is an organisation that aims to do the right thing and not abuse its strong market position. Combining the two companies will only strengthen our offering:
  • No duplication of the cost of our services.
  • Better placed to deliver Government plans for further development, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction strategies.
  • Overall better support, market-leading software, and more value than ever before.
For now, nothing changes. We will create a clear plan in regard to combining the schemes and services, and members will be given plenty of notice. We will support all members through this process and ensure a comfortable and smooth transition.
For now, there will be no changes to your membership. We will communicate any changes to our members in advance and Elmhurst will honour all current commercial and pricing agreements.
Yes. For now, everything will continue to operate as normal, and we are happy to accept and advise new members.
Please continue as planned. If you had planned to join Stroma, then do so. We will provide all members and customers advance notice of any changes.
Yes, this is possible. However, we do advise staying where you are until further notice. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please get in touch.
