What is the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme?

ESOS is a mandatory energy audit scheme for all qualifying UK organisations who meet a given criteria, namely:

  • Organisations employing at least 250 people
  • Organisations with an annual turnover exceeding €50 million and an annual balance sheet total exceeding €43 million
  • Please refer to the Gov.uk website for more information regarding ESOS compliance criteria

Organisations who meet these criteria must undergo an ESOS audit every 4 years to assess their energy consumption. There is a requirement for organisations to notify the Environment Agency that they are compliant with the ESOS regulations within a given compliance period.
