Following the initial release of the 18th Edition, which is expected on 2nd July 2018, there will be a 6 month transition period in which electricians and electrical contractors will be able to get up to speed before the new electrical regulations come into effect in January 2019.
From January 2019, it will be a requirement that all electrical installations must comply with BS 7671:2018 IET Wiring Regulations (the 18th Edition). It is important that all professionals working in the electrical industry are able to demonstrate a level of understanding and awareness of the changes to these electrical regulations in order to remain compliant.
Stroma Certification can support you throughout the changes to the BS 7671 Wiring Regulations. With our qualified technical support staff, seminar programme and updates of the latest developments, we can help you understand and become compliant with the new 18th Edition electrical regulations before they come into force in January 2019.
The IET co-publishes the electrical Wiring Regulations alongside the British Standards Institute (BSI) and is the authority on electrical installation.
BS 7671 of the IET Wiring Regulations sets the standards which apply to the design, erection and verification of electrical installations, as well as additions and alterations to existing installations, in the UK and many other countries. By following the guidance and regulations of BS 7671, you can ensure that your work meets the requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
Changes to the Wiring Regulations are often made to ensure all electrical work remains compliant and up to date as well as reflecting the latest developments in electrical technology. By remaining compliant with regulation changes, such as the 18th Edition, you can assure your customers that you are credible, compliant and carrying out electrical work to the highest standards.
Whilst we will have to wait until the expected release date of 2nd July 2018 to find out what the new 18th Edition standards will definitely include, a number of proposed changes have been announced:
Significant changes to protection against overvoltages
Significant changes to protection against fire
Changes to Section 753
New guidance on energy efficiency
With just a few months to go until the launch of the 18th Edition, it is important that electrical professionals begin to familiarise themselves with the key changes in the new Wiring Regulations.
To facilitate this, Stroma Certification will initially be launching a seminar programme to assist electricians and electrical contractors with gaining an understanding of the key changes in the BS 7671:2018 Wiring Regulations.
These seminars will be delivered by industry experts and will provide professionals in the electrical industry with the opportunity to ask any questions regarding the updates to the latest edition of the IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
