Background
The Wakefield Westgate Station was redeveloped as a new integrated transport exchange in a highly sustainable design with 1450 car parking spaces, new travel centre, retail and coffee shops. The existing station was redeveloped and relocated further along the platform to the north, adjacent to the new multi-storey car parking facility and will provide:
- A new modern station facility and “gateway” to the city
- A transport interchange facilitated by the provision of a functioning forecourt with improved drop off, taxi bays, bus replacement and full access to East and West platforms
- Visually two axis were created to the City’s famous skyline. The principal vista picks up the Town Hall Tower, whilst a secondary vista relates to County Hall and its dome.
