We were contacted by the client and asked to provide technical expertise to support the wider energy efficiency services being provided to the end client. The end client sought advice on the decarbonisation of their estate, net zero carbon and the process of applying for grants.


We were able to analyse the school buildings by creating a digital twin using dynamic simulation modelling. Current energy use was calibrated to the existing annual energy bills. Dynamic simulations could then be undertaken to advise on the likely energy, carbon and cost impact of various improvement measures (including fabric, lighting, air sealing and heating). By constructing the digital twin, we were able to quantify the potential benefits of various possible decarbonisation measures identified by Talk Green during their building condition surveys. In turn, this allowed us to provide cost/benefit analyses and carbon reduction calculations to support grant funding applications for measures that would offer worthwhile improvement.


The school gained a greater understanding of the likely real-world savings, payback periods, and carbon impact available from certain measures to assist with decision making. They were also provided with calculations concerning carbon reduction required for SALIX grant application funding under the public sector decarbonisation scheme.
