Electrical Thermography

What is Electrical Thermography?

Electrical Thermography can diagnose faults in electrical systems. Using thermal imaging cameras, we can help you to inspect electrical systems in your premises. Stroma Built Environment delivers Electrical Thermography surveys and inspections to determine if electrical systems are operating as normal, in order to reduce risks and any breakdowns.

Electrical Thermography – why choose Stroma Built Environment?

Stroma Built Environment employs certified Electrical Thermographers with extensive experience in using the latest high-resolution thermal imagery equipment. All surveys are accompanied by a full colour report to detail any identified risks in your electrical systems. Our reports can recognise any temperature anomalies in your electrical systems, along with possible causes. We are experienced in advising on remedial actions to eliminate risks such as fire and downtime to your systems. Regular maintenance and inspection of electrical infrastructure is required to maintain compliance with a range of regulations and legislation. These include the Electricity at Work Regulations Act 1989, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.

Benefits of Electrical Thermography

Thermography can provide an accurate representation of the condition of an electrical installation. We are experienced in carrying out thermal imaging surveys whilst the electrical system is under normal load. This will ensure there is no downtime in equipment or production.

All of our Electrical Thermographic Surveys are carried out using thermal imaging cameras to detect infrared radiation. This allows our Thermographers to assess an object’s temperature to identify any electrical defaults. If a hot spot is detected, this is a reliable indication that a fault may be found in the electrical system.

Our team of qualified thermographers can carry out non-intrusive surveys in order to:

  • Minimise interrupting normal operation
  • Increase equipment lifespan
  • Reduce running and operating costs
  • Prevent equipment breakdown/downtime
  • Prevent risks such as fire
  • Comply with insurance company requirements
  • Compliment Periodic Fixed Wire testing

Stroma Built Environment delivers Electrical Thermal Imaging Surveys on a range of electrical systems, including:

  • Distribution boards
  • Switch panels and switch boards
  • Control panels
  • Switch fuses and isolators
  • Servers
  • Battery Banks
  • Transformers

We would recommend that you undertake a follow-up survey at least once every 12 months. Our Thermographers are then able to monitor the electricals current performance compared to the last survey.

Electrical Thermography Surveys & Inspections

Our Electrical Thermography Surveys are carried out using high specification cameras and full colour reports are produced using high spec analysis software. The report will highlight the equipment surveyed and show any temperature anomalies.

Output of Information

The results of the thermal survey will be displayed in a full colour report, including thermal images, description and location of anomalies, classification of severity and recommended remedial actions.

The Team

Stroma Built Environment has an expert thermography team who can carry out Electrical Thermography surveys on your systems. Our Thermographers are PCN certified with excellent engineering qualifications and experience of complex installations.

After the Electrical Thermography Survey

Electrical systems benefit from an ongoing inspection program. It is recommended that inspections are carried out on an annual basis as a minimum. Higher risk / more valuable assets, i.e. data centres, may benefit from more regular inspections. The follow-up visits can be very useful as a comparison can be made between the current performance and the previous visit.
