Asbestos Surveys

Asbestos Surveys and the RIBA Plan of Work

What are Asbestos Surveys?

Asbestos Surveys determine the presence of any Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) in buildings. Stroma Built Environment delivers Asbestos Surveys and Asbestos Refurbishment & Demolition Surveys to support duty-holders, building owners and employers to identify any ACMs in their premises or workplace. Our consultants can then make recommendations to manage the risks or advise on its removal. Our re-inspection surveys can help to assess premises with pre-existing asbestos. We are experienced in providing these surveys to re-inspect the condition of any ACMs for compliance with The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

Why do you need an Asbestos Survey?

Asbestos is the biggest cause of work-related deaths in the UK and can still be found in many commercial and residential buildings, even though it has been banned for many years. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 requires the duty holder to manage asbestos, make and keep up-to-date a record of the location and condition of ACMs or materials which are presumed to contain asbestos.

All building owners, managers, or individuals with an interest in non-domestic properties must legally comply with these regulations.

Any ‘duty holder’ will need to identify and manage on an ongoing, pro-active basis, any ACMs within their building; this starts with a survey and extends to preparing and maintaining a management plan. Duty holders must only appoint competent persons or organisations to perform surveys, and the Health and Safety Executive strongly recommends the use of accredited or certified surveyors.
