Background

The Skinners’ Kent Primary School was delivered to time and budget. The new school situated within the heart of the new Knights Wood development to the North of Tunbridge Wells. Designed and built on behalf of Kent County Council, this new sustainable school development hosts a 2-storey state-of the-art teaching facility and outdoor space with scope for development at a later date to accommodate increased student numbers.

Outcome

In addition to the benefits realised through an advanced timber solution, the early stage value engineering exercise highlighted a number of potential savings on prelims and foundations against a steel frame/masonry approach. This, coupled with further sustainable design features, such as photovoltaic panels, created an energy efficient building which will generate whole life cost savings for the school. The project was designed and delivered using Building Information Modelling (BIM). The use of 3D technology enabled delivery to be significantly more efficient in comparison to a traditional 2D approach.
