Outcome
As part of the work, the existing building was partly demolished and the existing façade was retained and incorporated into the new main building’s structure and elevation. The complexities of the interconnection between the existing listed structure and the new building fabric was carefully considered to ensure a cost effective solution was achieved. Fire engineering was key to the building design as the upper floors were split into private and housing association sections, both utilising centralised escape stairs and escape routes. The project also included complexities associated with Section 20 of the London Building Act.
