Background

We work with a national hotel provider who is developing their portfolio around the country through the redevelopment and conversion of unique and unusual buildings which can be challenging site. We have become efficient in delivering an effective Approved Inspector Service to this valued client and have adapted our systems and processes to provide a single point of contact (Client Manager) to avoid possible misinterpretations and communications within the Design Team and overall Building Control process.

Outcome

We recently became involved in the redevelopment and conversion of an existing 5-storey building including basement to provide a 113 bedroom hotel within an iconic listed building in Manchester, the Flat Iron Building. Due to the unusual shape and historic listing of the building the scheme was fire engineered, which involved close liaison with the Fire Authority. Additionally, through our proactive approach, we were able to agree a practical way to satisfy the requirements of Part L whilst being sympathetic to the historical and listed aspects of the existing building.
