Product Performance Testing
Stroma Technology’s Product Performance Testing division undertakes laboratory testing of:
- The air-permeability of products or product assemblies, such as doors, windows, cladding systems and materials
- Noise emissions testing of operating mechanical systems including LAeq Levels and octave band frequency analysis
- Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems performance.
UKAS accredited Stroma Technology has the combined benefit of both consultancy experience and practical, hands-on capability in the field of building compliance and energy performance improvement. This broad base of expertise makes us ideally placed to carry out product performance testing.
Case Study: BSF North East
Product performance testing provided invaluable to Carillion’s Durham BSF Building Services Team for the BSF North East project. The scheme will deliver hundreds of classrooms, each benefitting from an independent supply/exhaust HVAC system. Carillion needed to prove that the noise emissions and flow-rates of the as-built systems would perform within design specification, when used in conjunction with some bespoke window louvres.
Stroma Technology was commissioned to demonstrate this through performance testing. We constructed a test cell with a complete typical assembled HVAC system within. Flow-rate and noise emission testing systems were then undertaken under controlled conditions, with multiple scenarios tested. The testing was witnessed by Carillion Engineers and their M&E Suppliers and Contractors. The systems were found to perform within the required design parameters and thereby allowed final HVAC product specification and procurement to proceed.
