Stroma's CPD for Northern Ireland's DEAs

It recently became apparent that domestic energy assessors (DEAs) are finding it difficult to fulfil their obligations for structured continuing professional development (CPD) due to the absence of seminars in Northern Ireland. To address this, UK-based certification body Stroma was invited to deliver a CPD event specifically for DEAs in the province.

Stroma Certification is approved by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) to train and certify energy assessors, Code for Sustainable Homes assessors and air-conditioning inspectors throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The event was held at Cliftonville Golf Club in Belfast from 8-9th October and consisted of two one-day sessions, each providing the five hours of structured CPD which assessors are obliged to complete annually. The CPD was delivered by Technical Manager Stephen Horrocks and Senior Energy Assessor Charles Toomey and topics covered included renewable energy technologies, rooms in roofs and secondary heating.

Speaking on behalf of Stroma, Business Development Manager Michael McGrath commented: 'We are pleased to say that last week's event was a resounding success, with almost half the 80 assessors who attended realising the extra benefits available to Stroma members and deciding to switch to our certification scheme. We look forward to organising similar events in Northern Ireland in the near future.'
