Stroma Certification Release Competent Person Scheme
Stroma Certification is licensed by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) to run Competent Person [Self Certification] Schemes (CPS), covering the installation of heating and hot water systems, microgeneration and renewable technologies within residential and non-residential properties.
Becoming a member of Stroma Certification’s Competent Person Scheme ensures that operatives can carry out the design; installation and issue self-certification for compliance with the Building Regulations, installations that are carried out by a non-registered person will have no evidence of compliance.
The CPS scheme offers operatives and installers the optimal in approved membership, as it is a CPS scheme run for the members’ benefit, for example:
- All members’ details shall be advertised openly to promote their services
- All scheme profit shall be re-invested for the benefit of scheme members
- Scheme annual accounts are provided to all members to ensure transparency
Transferral to the scheme is FREE of charge (a saving of £245) and offers the most competitive notification fees of just £1.50, with a straightforward application process that’s also free of charge, its certainly worth considering the savings that can be made as a Stroma Certified Competent Person.
Furthermore, the UK is committed to meeting EU targets of producing 20% of energy from renewable sources by 2020. Achieving these targets could provide £100 billion worth of investment opportunities and up to half a million jobs in the renewable energy sector by 2020. The MCS, a recognised quality assurance scheme, for low to zero carbon (LZC) installation and renewable technologies, promotes a mark of competency to demonstrate installations are carried out to the highest quality each time.
Installers wishing to become an MCS certificated installer must do so by applying to a Certification Body i.e. Stroma Certification. Accredited Certification Bodies must be accredited by UKAS under BS EN 45011:1998 to undertake certification assessments. Stroma’s Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) ensures that all notifications, inspections and installations of the microgeneration technologies; solar photovoltaic’s (PV), solar thermal and heat pumps are produced to consistently high standards.
MCS is connected to many of the key factors and initiatives that are driving demand for lowering carbon emissions for example; Feed-In Tariffs (FITs), Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), The Low Carbon Buildings Programme and Energy Saving Scotland, the Code for Sustainable Homes and the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP).
To further complement legislative development and the changing building industry requirements, Stroma offer a broad range of training courses, software and certification schemes for example, renewable technologies training for installing and testing Photovoltaic (PV) systems and solar hot water installer training, alongside electrical installation and wiring regulation training.
