Stroma Contracting appointed by Goldsmiths
Goldsmiths is one of London's most prestigious centres of higher education and the Department of Estates and Facilities is responsible for the management and maintenance of a large number of accommodation buildings housing approximately 3000 students.
Routine inspections carried out by the estates maintenance team revealed deficiencies in the integrity of the fire stopping to fire compartment walls and floors within this portfolio of 15 properties, all varying in age and size. Consequently, in the event of a fire, the buildings and their residents would be at risk from the uncontrolled spread of fire and smoke.
Stroma Contracting was appointed by Goldsmiths to carry out detailed fire risk assessments and to design and undertake various forms of structural fire protection and fire stopping to prevent the spread of fire and smoke and to ensure the continued safety of the residents.
During the course of the installation works, Stroma Contracting had to address the problems which arise from working in a 'live' environment, not least ensuring that the students were undisturbed by the process.
Having successfully completed the work required on five properties, Stroma Contracting is still engaged on this continuing programme of works.
