Stroma and the Institute for Sustainability

Stroma is an active member of the Institute for Sustainability (IfS), a pioneering public-private sector collaboration based in the Thames Gateway region, which aims to research and promote sustainable development and best practice with a view to reducing negative impacts on the environment. Initial research projects are focusing specifically on construction, energy and waste.

Stroma is currently involved in the retrofit envelope research project, addressing the energy efficiency of existing housing stock and identifying improvement strategies for meeting government targets. The scheme aims to establish practical and financially viable solutions for the refurbishment of poorly-performing dwellings, which can then be replicated on a large scale within a rolling programme of works. This important project is one of several innovative schemes across the UK designed to inform the industry and lead the way in launching a range of new opportunities and initiatives.
