Fire Risk Assessments

Implemented in October 2006, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRO) applies throughout England and Wales and contains fire regulations and precautions which are necessary to protect both people and buildings in the event of a fire.

Under the RRO, the ‘responsible person’ has a statutory duty to take reasonable steps to reduce the fire risk to people and property, and to commission an annual fire risk assessment from a competent assessor. This applies to nearly every type of building with the exception of private homes.

The ‘responsible person’ is anyone who has a degree of control over an area or system in a building including owners, managing agents, occupiers and employers.

Stroma can help all parties to understand their obligations under the RRO and has a team of qualified assessors to carry out the necessary fire risk assessments.

Stroma’s fire risk assessors are all qualified to ABBE level 3 standards and can carry out assessments on small to medium-sized non-domestic buildings such as offices, industrial premises and shops.

Should an inspection reveal the need for remedial works to the structural passive fire protection, or fire stopping of service penetrations in fire containment walls/floors, Stroma Contracting is a third party accredited specialist in providing these services. Moreover, in the course of these works, we can enhance the air-tightness of the structure in order to reduce energy wastage.
