Certification Q&A
What is an EPC?
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) provides an energy rating for a building on a scale of A-G, with A being highly efficient and G is least efficient. An EPC also supplies information on how to make your property more energy efficient via suggested improvements, such as greater insulation.
When is an EPC required?
An EPC is required when a property is bought, sold or let on the open market.
What is an Air-Conditioning Energy Assessment?
An Air-Conditioning Energy Assessment (ACEA) evaluates a systems performance and efficiency to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, as well as capital operating costs.
When is an Air-Conditioning Energy Assessment required?
Building landlords and managers who operate air-conditioning systems have a statutory obligation under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) to ensure that air-conditioning inspections are carried out by qualified and accredited inspectors.
All systems with an effective rated output of more than 12KW must be regularly inspected by an inspector. For systems with an effective rated output greater than 250KW, the first inspection was required before 4th January 2009, and for systems with an effective rated output of more than 12KW the first inspection was required before 4th January 2011.
What does a Competent Person Scheme (CPS) do?
Membership of a Competent Person Scheme (CPS) enables operatives to issue self-certification for compliance with the Building Regulations for the installation of heating and hot water systems, as well as microgeneration and renewable technologies, negating the requirement for building notice submissions or the use of building inspectors.
Why does being MCS Certified benefit me?
The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) ensures that all notifications, inspections and installations of microgeneration technologies such as solar photovoltaics (PV) are produced to consistently high standards by competent professionals who satisfy all the requirements of the MCS.
What is the Green Deal?
For lots of information about the Green Deal, how you can join the supply chain or participate as a customer, and the services Stroma provides to support you, please refer to the Green Deal area of this website: www.stroma.com/greendeal
